Bent Propeller i.m., 1971

This is an intermediate maquette for the large-scale sculpture of the same name that was destroyed during the 9/11/2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. An intermediate maquette sits between the artist made maquette and the large scale sculpture and was made so the artist could determine the locations of the stabilizers and make changes if needed. It is a working model and was never designed or intended for outdoor display. After inappropriate outdoor display, corrosion built up between layers causing the metal to deform. Treatment included reforming damaged areas, addressing corrosion, and repainting to meet Calder Foundation specifications.
