Monumenta Art Conservation and Finishing LLC is a partnership between Abigail Mack and Ellen Rand that specializes in the maintenance, conservation, and finishing of works of art.
Ellen Rand has worked continuously in contemporary and traditional sculpture fabrication beginning with her first art foundry job in 1987. She is a working metalsmith and master patineur and has trained other fine art fabrication firms in patination techniques in the U.S. and in Italy and Asia. With her 30 years of experience working directly with artists, artists’ estates, and art foundries, she has a unique understanding of how historical and modern artworks and patinas are created. This experience is invaluable in the context of preservation.
After a decade of working together on different projects, it became clear that the working style and skill sets Mack and Rand bring to each project are uniquely complimentary. Monumenta was formed to care for and respond to a wide range of sculpture needs. This includes material types of painted outdoor sculpture, metals patinated metals, wood, stone, and alternative materials such as plastics and fiberglass. In addition to work on individual artworks, Mack and Rand also have decades of experience in the professional management and care of public and private collections, such as the ongoing contract with the sculptures in the Empire State Plaza Art Collection.
